Businesses find different ways to interest consumers into buying a product they are selling. Sometimes the company reaching out to consumers is not who they say they are. Michelle Reinen is with The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

There is a business imposter who claims to be a service provider, that many individuals use.

If anyone receives suspicious calls from Spectrum, or any company, it is best to contact them yourself to verify it is them before giving them any information or money. Michelle Reinen says that another scammer that contacts consumers around this time of year is someone claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House.

If you have been contacted by, or been scammed, by a business imposter you can contact DATCP’s Consumer Protection Hotline by phone at 1-800-422-7128 or by email at [email protected].
