The Richland Center City Council held a special meeting Tuesday night due to two open alderperson seats on the council. The first is for District 1 which is up for election in April. Due to health reasons, Connnie Hoppenjan is unable to fulfil her term. The person filling it would be responsible for the next three meetings. Mayor Todd Coppernoll approached the council about filling the position by appointment until April and then let it be filled by a write-in vote as no one is currently running for the position. Alderperson, Karin Tepley, felt that it should be made known to the public to see if someone is willing to fill the seat. Tepley then moved to postpone the appointment until the February 6 meeting and Kevin Melby seconded. The motion to postpone passed on a 5 to 1 vote. The seat remains open and anyone who lives in the district, wishing to fill the position should make their wishes known and attend the February 6 meeting, where an appointment will be made.
There is also an open seat in District 3, Wards 7, 8, and 9, following the resignation of Melany Walters. No decision has been made to fill that seat at this time.
