
The Richland Center girls basketball team picked up a win 49-23 over Portage on Monday night at home.
The Hornets went on a 16-0 run of points during the last minutes of the 1st half and during the first 6 minutes of the 2nd half and built a lead they would not give up. The team improved to 3-12 overall with the win. They have a makeup game Thursday night at home against Logan and a conference game Friday when they host Prairie du Chien.
The Hornets were led in scoring by Ellavy Weiss and Ella Clements who each netted 12. Kylie Burns made two three pointers and ended with 11 points. Taylor Wertz contributed 6, Jori Schultz had 4 points, Ava Martin scored a 3 pointer, and Lilly Laeseke had one point. The team was 12 for 17 from the line.
Portage fell to 2-9 with the loss. McKenna Kirkendoll made three 3 pointers and ended with 11 points to lead the Warriors.
The JV 1 game belonged to Portage as they won the early contest 30-24 over the Hornets.
Once again, the Varsity final was Richland Center 49 and Portage 23 in non-conference girls basketball.
