
The Richland Center girls basketball team lost a non-conference game at Highland on Tuesday night. In the game just before the holiday break, saw the Cardinals go on a 10-0 run to start the second half on the way to a 42-28 win.
Leading 20-13 at halftime, Highland turned up the defense in the 2nd stanza and hit some key baskets. The Hornets struggled with turnovers as they fell to 2-7 on the season.The Cardinals are now 7-1 with the win. They were led in scoring by Adilyn Esser with 14, Addison Bedward added 9, Celia Oleson had 7 points, Caitlyn Fritsch scored 5, Sophia Terrell totaled 4, and Emily Laufenburg had 3. Highland made 6 three point baskets and went 4 for 9 from the line.
Ellavy Weiss led the Hornets with 9, Addie Board made two three pointers and ended with 8, Taylor Wertz scored 4, Kylie Burns made a three pointer, Ella Clements and Rylee Teschner both had 2 points. Richland Center was 5 for 10 from the line.There was no JV game on Tuesday night at Highland.
Both teams will take some time off now for the holidays. Following the 42-28 win, Highland will prepare to face Darlington on January 3rd. The Hornets will play Tuesday December 30th at home for their own invitational. They will play Royall that day at 10 am. Kickapoo and Westby will also be attending with each team scheduled to play 2 games that day.
