RICHLAND CENTER, WIS. (WRCO / WRCE) Fire Chief Scott Gald reminds everyone to make sure your smoke detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors are in working order and that they have a 10-year life cycle and need to be changed out with new detectors.

Also make sure all exhaust pipes on your home are clear of snow and ice with the wintery conditions we have been having.

Fires increase during the holidays due to decorations, candles, cooking, and heating. A working smoke detector is one of the most effective ways to protect your home and loved ones.

Also, anyone with a fire hydrant on their property are asked to please shovel around the hydrant at least three feet in each direction for the fire departments so that the fire department can access them easily in an emergency.
