
RICHLAND CENTER, WIS. (WRCO / WRCE) Richland Center opened the SWC with a 56-52 win over River Valley. The Hornet boys took the lead for good with 1:45 left in the hard fought battle. The Blackhawks led by 12 points twice in the first half. Richland Center went on an 8-0 run at the end of the first stanza and trailed by 4 at halftime. River Valley led by 5 with 3:30 left before the Hornets came back to take the lead and win to improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the league. River Valley fell to 2-2 and 0-1 in the conference.
Hornet Junior Jayden Schoepp led all scorers with 21 including 4 three pointers. Senior Brady Dosch added 20 including 4 points in a 5 second span with the game on the line after a basket and a steal of inbounds pass that led to another basket. Liam Fingerson had 7, Deakyn Heisz had 5, Kyzan Schwictenberg had 2 points, and Connor Stoltz hit a free throw late in the game. The Hornets were 10 for 19 from the line.
The Blackhawks Keegan Heiser had 13 for River Valley. Jackson Thatcher and Lucas Klein both totaled 9, Sumner Nachreiner had 8 points, Quincy Blakely scored 7, Trevor Henkel added 4, and Kaden Plumley scored 2. River Valley made 5 three pointers and went 9 for 13 from the line.
The Blackhawks JV won the early game 32-27 over the Hornets in the JV 1 game.
Following the 56-52 Varsity win, Richland Center will prepare to host Prairie du Chien on Thursday while River Valley will play Reedsburg in a non-league battle on Tuesday night at home.
