RICHLAND CENTER, WIS. (WRCO / WRCE) UPDATED FOR SATURDAY DECEMBER 13

COLD WEATHER ADVISORY in Vernon and Sauk counties now through 10 AM Sunday and for the Richland, Crawford, Grant, and Iowa counties from 6 PM today through 10 AM Sunday. Wind chills from -15 to -25 in much of the period. Bundle up if venturing out to avoid frostbite or hypothermia.

Some hazardously cold temperatures are on the way this weekend.

The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures to drop into the negative single digits by Friday night into Saturday, with windchills as cold as 30 below zero in some parts of eastern Wisconsin.

For the greater Richland County area, Saturday looks to bring the coldest weather of the next week. Saturday we can expect cloudy skies early and becoming partly cloudy later in the day with a high temperature of just 4 above. Saturday night into Sunday morning shows bitterly cold conditions with clear skies. Our overnight low could reach -13 with winds NW at 5 to 10 mph. We could feel actual temps of -2 to -5 both Friday and Sunday nights. Sunday, we stay in single digit highs at 8 above. Our rebound begins Monday with a high of 24 degrees, and we will stay with highs in the 20 and 30’s all the way through Christmas day.

If you must travel, be sure to bundle up and don’t have any exposed skin while outside. Indoors, be ready to deal with increased energy usage, and maybe have a blanket or two on hand.

Do not use gas powered devices to heat the indoors, as that can cause dangerous carbon monoxide poisoning.
