Agnes’ Table and Community Center completed its move to a new location in Chippewa Falls, allowing them to expand their meal services.
The organization has been serving Chippewa Falls residents in need of meal assistance for over 20 years. Those meal services were previously offered out of a downtown location before moving to Trinity United Methodist Church to increase capacity.
On Tuesday, Agnes’ Table and Community Center officially began offering meal services at its new location, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. According to Executive Director Paula Gregory, the church will allow them to serve more meals to more residents at a time when demand for food assistance is increasing across the state.
“Well they approached us and they said, you know, we have this brand new space we’ve built in the last few years and we’re looking to partner with some organizations on collaborating to help the community,” said Gregory. “And we talked with them, they met with our board, we did a tour and we just realized that space-wise it’s going to be a much better location. They have double the kitchen equipment, a larger gathering space for more people if, you know, our numbers do continue to grow and so we decided it’s a good fit.”
According to Gregory, Agnes’ Table and Community Center was serving about 60 to 90 people at their downtown Chippewa Falls location. That number grew to between 120 and 150 when they moved to Trinity United Methodist Church, and St. Charles Borromeo can accommodate even more.
With the increased space, the organization is also seeking more businesses and community groups to sponsor meals.
“Our meals are based on sponsorships, so we get out in the community and we find businesses, you know, church groups, youth groups that are looking to do some sort of giving back,” said Gregory. “And they can either, there’s a donation of $150 to help cover the cost of the food that we would be serving or they can purchase the food and bring it in and cook it themselves, but it just has to be cooked in a commercial kitchen.”
Agnes’ Table and Community Kitchen will offer the meal services at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Tuesdays and Thursday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The organization is also always looking for more volunteers who can help prepare the meals.
