WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – Gov. Tony Evers yesterday visited the Wausau Area Virtual Education (WAVE) headquarters in honor of Veterans Day. The WAVE Quilt Club students presented Quilts of Valor to veterans and service members.

“Wisconsin is home to approximately 300,000 veterans, each of them sacrificing the comforts and safety of home to defend our great state and nation,” Evers said. “They are our friends, our neighbors, and in this case, three people that work in the school district.”

The Quilt Club presented three school district employees with Quilts of Valor in honor of their service in the military.

The quilts were crafted by Wausau school district students.

“These Quilts of Valor will last a lifetime and you should be very proud of your work,” Evers said.

Mayor Doug Diny also spoke at the ceremony, speaking on his own service in the Army.

“As mayor, I see Wausau’s strength when schools and veterans stand together,” Diny said. “I see Wausau’s strengths when schools and veterans stand together. Wausau City Hall’s doors are open. Let’s keep building on this foundation.”
