CHILTON, Wis (WRPN/WAUH)- Calumet County Sheriff’s officials say, while a sheriff’s deputy was out on a traffic stop Tuesday morning, a drunk driver rear-ended the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

It happened about 4:30 that morning on State Highway 57 near County Highway K in the town of Brillion. The vehicle that hit the squad rolled onto its roof.

The driver showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing injury. The deputy suffered only minor injuries and will be back on duty soon.

Motorists are urged to plan for a sober ride home if they’ve been drinking. Also keep in mind the Move over Law. When you see flashing lights on the roadside, move over and slow down. That will help ensure the safety of law enforcement officers, other emergency vehicles and other drivers on the road.
