RIPON, Minn (WRPN) – Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies and the Ripon Fire Department responded to a home at W13819 Skyline Circle in the town of Ripon Thursday morning, June 19 for a house fire.
Sheriff’s officials say just before 10:30 a.m., a 911 call reported black smoke filling the inside of the residence. Firefighters found the source of the fire before it could spread to the rest of the home.
The fire originated in a workshop located in the basement. The cause is believed to be electrical in nature, stemming from a tool that was plugged in at the time.
The property owners, Jason and Danyelle Campbell, were not home during the incident. A cat inside the residence died of smoke inhalation. Emergency responders rescued other pets.
The fire was confined to the basement, but there was significant smoke and soot damage to the rest of the home. The damage rendered the home uninhabitable.
Assisting the Ripon Fire Department were Brandon-Fairwater, Rosendale, Utica, and Markesan Fire Departments, along with Ripon Guardian Ambulance Service and the Ripon Police Department.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature but remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
