RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) – The Racine Fire Department responded to three separate structure fires within a 24-hour period, causing over $100,000 in damages but resulting in no injuries to residents or firefighters.
On Wednesday, March 5 at 10:54 p.m., crews battled a kitchen fire at 2904 Mt. Pleasant St. The blaze displaced residents from two apartments and claimed the life of one pet. Damage was estimated at $67,000.
The following day at 8:43 a.m., firefighters put out a balcony fire in the 4000 block of Washington Avenue. A statement from the Racine Fire Department says it was caused by careless disposal of cigarettes. In this one, there were no working smoke alarms. Damage was limited to $10,000.
Later, at 12:56 p.m., a bedroom fire in the 1800 block of Grand Avenue resulted in $23,000 in damages. The cause was determined to be an electrical component failure in a closet.
The Racine Police Department assisted with traffic control at each scene.
