Former GOP Strategist Carlton Huffman warns of Republican tactics to challenge election results and delay certification on Rational Revolution

If Kamala Harris secures a win in the presidential election, former Republican strategist Carlton Huffman discusses the Republican Party’s potential election disruption strategies with Mark Becker, host of Rational Revolution. Huffman, a longtime observer of GOP maneuvers, says key battleground states like Georgia, Michigan, and North Carolina are introducing changes to the election process designed to delay results and throw the outcome into doubt.

Their objective isn’t to win more voters. It’s to find any way possible to undermine the process.

“For example in Georgia, pro-MAGA election boards are set to require hand counting of ballots across all counties,” Huffman explains. “This move would delay results by weeks.”

Similar strategies in Michigan and North Carolina would also slow down the process, aiming to disrupt certification and build on confusion among the electorate. Huffman compares these tactics to those employed in the 2020 election, only this time, the goal would be to force the decision into the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold a structural advantage despite potentially losing the popular vote.

“Their objective isn’t to win more voters. It’s to find any way possible to undermine the process,” Huffman says. “These efforts would set the stage for a prolonged period of uncertainty, much like the aftermath of the 2020 election, but with even higher stakes.”

Huffman and Becker discuss a few hypothetical scenarios, while warning legal loopholes could bring the country dangerously close to another January 6th-like moment.

“We have this as a sobering reminder of how fragile democracy can be,” Huffman says. “Especially when faced with partisan manipulation of the electoral process.”
