Update: This is no longer an active scene. The suspect is still at large. If you have any information or observe Jeffrey Miller please contact the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.

A suspect is at large and presumed armed. Last night (Tuesday, at approximately 11:05 an officer from the Sauk Prairie Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a red minivan in their jurisdiction for a possible intoxicated driver. The vehicle fled from the officer, disregarding traffic signs, and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle was driving recklessly, traveling at a high rate of speed on HWY 78. The license plate for the minivan was obtained, and the pursuit was soon terminated.

A Sauk County Deputy came across the minivan minutes later on HWY 113 near County Road DL and followed the vehicle towards Baraboo. An officer deployed Stop Sticks in an attempt to stop the vehicle southeast of Baraboo on HWY 113/Water St near Manchester Rd. The vehicle continued northbound around the Stop Sticks, traveling at a high rate of speed, eventually crashing a short distance later. As Sauk County Deputies arrived at the crash location, the male operator fired gunshots toward deputies before running off westbound into a wooded area along HWY 113/Water St near the southeast corner of the City of Baraboo. One deputy suffered a minor injury as a result.

The male suspect, Jeffrey Edward Miller, age 32, is still at large and is presumed to be armed. He has ties to Sauk and Juneau County areas. He is described as a white male, with short or shaved brown hair, and a medium length beard. He was last seen wearing a black shirt. Law enforcement has established a perimeter and is actively searching the area of the southeast corner of the City of Baraboo for Jeffrey Miller. Citizens are asked to avoid the area and those who reside in the area shelter in place.

If anyone has information regarding Miller’s location, they are asked to contact the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office at 608-355-4495 or Sauk County Crimestoppers at 1-888-TIP-SAUK. Anyone who observes Miller or suspicious activity consistent with Miller should call 911 to report this information to local law enforcement.
