July is Military Consumer Protection Month. Scammers and con artists target all consumers, including present and past military service men and women who help protect our country. To protect them, and their families, The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is there to help. Michelle Reinen (rye-nun) is with DATCP.
Military service members can be victims of scams typically used, but in a different way.
The way the scams are presented can be deceiving by looking legitimate, according to Reinen.
Scammers will also target military service members by offering fake government benefits.
Michelle Reinen says that current service members are not the only ones that scammers will go after.
If you are a current military service member, a veteran or a military family member and you have been scammed you can contact DATCP’s Consumer Protection Hotline by phone at 1-800-422-7128 or by email at DATCP Hotline at wi dot gov.
